Beer weather
The dropping beer sale results may also concern the current year if the summer is going to be cold and rainy. Euromonitor International Company anticipates that the total beer sale in Poland may drop this year by around 4%. Beer market harvest starts at the beginning of May and lasts until the end of September. Around 50% of the annual sale of golden beverage is achieved during this period. So far the weather is not a supporter of the beer industry.

Who is going to buy Nemiroff?
Pernod Ricard, Brown Forman and Stock Spirits participated in the first round of negotiations on sale of the largest Ukrainian vodka producer Nemiroff. CEDC and Russkij Standard were the players of the second round. Closing of the sale process is anticipated in the second half this year. The new owner of Nemiroff is to be announced at the beginning of August. Experts estimate value of Nemiroff at 300 - 320 Million USD.

Vodka quality under control
Inspekcja Jakości Handlowej Artykułów Rolno-Spożywczych (Agricultural and Food Products Quality Inspection) has informed that there are still cases of inappropriately labelled products and lowered quality standards according to the results of the current inspection of spirit beverages. Vodka has been inspected in the scope of physical and chemical properties. Other categories of spirit beverages (such as flavoured vodkas, gin, brandy, whisky and liquors) have been checked in relation to proper labelling. Labelling had most of irregularities (17.6% of the controlled batches of spirit beverages had incorrect labelling). 8.1% of the inspected vodkas had improper chemical and physical composition. The inspection anticipates next inspections in the spirit industry.

End of the champagne crisis
Sale of champagne to the European Union states increased by 25.8% in the first quarter 2010 and sale of the worldwide sale raised as much as 19.4% in comparison with the analogous period last year. Demand for champagne also increased in France, the sale of the local beverage in this period was by 8.1% greater.

After work for a beer
According to the polls on beer consumption in Poland, ordered by SABMiller Company, the owner of Kompania Piwowarska, Poles willingly go for a beer with colleagues from work (64% of respondents) and also willingly pay for a beer from own wallet or club together for a round according to 68% of respondents. The poll has been conducted in 12 European countries, test percentage in each country was n = 500, all respondents came from a group of people regularly consuming beer (i.e. consuming golden beverage at least once every two weeks).

New distribution centre of Waspol
Waspol Gorup has opened a distribution centre in Ełk and this way extended the territorial range of distribution in the northern and the eastern Poland. The new warehouse facilities cover an area of 3 thousand m2 and customer service offices.

GlobalMalt invests in Bydgoszcz
German Company GlobalMalt has invested 40 Million PLN in extension and modernisation of the Bydgoszcz’s malt plants and as a result their production is going to increase over 100% – from 40 thousand up to 85 thousand tonnes of malt annually. In practice it means that every fourth bottle of beer in Poland shall be produced basing on the Bydgoszcz’s raw material. GlobalMalt has concluded long-term contracts for malt supply with Żywiec Group and Kompania Piwowarska. Foreign breweries shall also collect the malt from Bydgoszcz.

Polmos Companies for sale again
Ministry of State Treasury will probably put sale of Polmos Companies in Józefów and Bielsko Biała to tender in the second quarter this year. The industry estimates that the value of each factory does not exceed 20 million PLN.

What is hampering the Polish wine?
Demand for domestic wine is growing in Poland, but administrative and legal barriers make its supply still small. According to the data of the Agricultural Market Agency, there are 22 wine makers officially operating in Poland on 30 hectares of vineyards, however it reality there are hundreds of them and grape cultivations occupy over 400 hectares. Most of them do not have licences and do not sell the produced wine waiting for better times.
