Poles choose cheaper wine |
Despite the fact that consumption of wine in Poland increased by 5%, the fellow countrymen more often reach for cheaper wines, the price of which does not exceed 20 zł. Growth of a demand for imported wines from Bulgaria, Romania and Germany is anticipated on the domestic market at the break of 2010 and 2011.

Old excise bands valid until the end of 2010. |
As a result of market cues, the Ministry of Finance agreed to another extension of the excise band replacement deadline on alcohol packaging. Alcoholic beverages with old excise bands will be sold until December 2010. Estimates of the Polish Spirit Industry show that wholesale itself still has 3 million bottles of spirits and 7.5 million wines with old excise band.

Fine and start-up of Kopernik Vodka Factory |
The Polmos Company of Toruń shall pay a fine in the amount of 10 thousand PLN for illegal alcohol production start-up. At the same time, the Chairman of the Company Krzysztof Mielewczyk has submitted proper declaration, paid the tax and obtained approval for running a tax warehouse. Vodkas from Toruń are to emerge on the shop shelves soon as a production of 16 new brands started, i.e. Palycot and Pali Vodka. Bottling of various kinds of beer and bioethanol production is also planned.

"Yes" to moonshine for own use? |
Member of PO Janusz Palikot is going to submit a bill of act that allows a production of some amount of alcohol without excise tax to allow farmers to distillate their cereal and fruit surpluses. The idea is an element of a campaign for the rural electorate on Lubelszczyzna, Podlasie and the remaining regions of the Eastern Poland.

The South African SABMiller Group has announced a four-year cutting costs program assuming 300 million USD savings annually until 2014. The concern does not plan any employment reduction, yet it shall close the Pivovary Topvar Brewery in Slovakia on 28.02.2010. In the first half of the financial year 2009, SABMiller, the second largest beer producer in the world, the owner of Kompania Piwowarska, sold by 1% less beer than a year earlier and the demand for its brands in Europe dropped by 6%. The forecasts on the profits in the 2nd half of this year are more optimistic.

Beer advertisement reduction plan |
The Ministry of Health and PiS have submitted an amendment bill of the act on upbringing in sobriety and alcoholism counteraction in Seym. The both concepts assume activities in favour of the public health through beer advertisement ban in TV, radio, theatre and cinema before 11.00 p.m. Since beer is allowed to be advertised from 8.00 p.m., the number of TV spots of beer producers increased from 10 up to 30 thousand.

Appeal of wine makers fruitless |
Petition of the Polish wine makers encouraging legal changes in order to sell wine by local producers, signed by 20 thousand people, does not have a legal power. The document does not contain a text of the proposed amendments nor justification. Another offence means a lack of a specially appointed, at least 15-person committee coordinating any procedures associated with civil project of changes.
