Polish women drink light wine |
49% of women, subjected to the poll conducted by a research company MilwardBrown SMG/KRC, purchases light wines, 43% of the respondents reaches for refreshing wines, 45.5% seeks wines suitable for any occasion. The poll was conducted in April 2010 on a countrywide group of 324 respondents in the age of 18 - 60 and consuming wine at least once in six months. The summer season contributes to the growing popularity of light refreshing wines.

Tesco in Great Britain wants minimum prices of alcoholic beverages |
The British chain of supermarkets supports the governmental alcohol sale ban below specific price limit. Tesco in the islands demands determining minimum prices for different alcoholic beverages from the British government. According to the owners of Tesco, the extreme price competition in Great Britain has led to a considerable purchase cost reduction of alcoholic beverages (mainly beer and vodka) and at the same time contributed to the national drinking problem.

W&S Alkohole expands the chain of shops |
W&S Alkohole chain, owned by AN.KA Dystrybucja (recently incorporated into the Dutch group Invinments Holding), has opened its seventh post in Warsaw. The newly established shop is 18th in Poland. AN.KA Dystrybucja is an exclusive importer of wine, beer, whisky, brandy and gin brands from thirteen countries of the world. The company is going to accelerate its growth taking advantage of the Dutch investor’s support.

There won't be warnings signs on alcohol packaging |
Poland is not going to implement alcohol consumption harmfulness warning signs, which were supposed to cover 15% of beer, wine and vodka packaging. Combined Seym Commissions of Health, Culture and Media decided not to pass the bill and as a result the spirit industry and trade saved nearly 1 billion PLN spent on implementation of the changes on the packaging. In 2008, a draft of warning label introduction emerged. The then idea dropped together with the bill of amendment of the act on upbringing in sobriety and alcoholism counteraction. In the second half of 2009, Members of the Parliament from the PiS Party put forward similar propositions. The presently rejected bill also included beer advertisement ban before 11.00 p.m.

Belvedere Group sells wholesalers |
The Group in Polska, quoted as Sobieski, conducts negotiations on sale of the distribution chain of 11 wholesalers in Poland. Emperia Group is interested in purchasing the wholesalers. Belvedere also considers sale of 28 own shops Galeria Alkoholi.

The dropping beer sale results may also concern the current year if the summer is going to be cold and rainy. Euromonitor International Company anticipates that the total beer sale in Poland may drop this year by around 4%. Beer market harvest starts at the beginning of May and lasts until the end of September. Around 50% of the annual sale of golden beverage is achieved during this period. So far the weather is not a supporter of the beer industry.

Who is going to buy Nemiroff? |
Pernod Ricard, Brown Forman and Stock Spirits participated in the first round of negotiations on sale of the largest Ukrainian vodka producer Nemiroff. CEDC and Russkij Standard were the players of the second round. Closing of the sale process is anticipated in the second half this year. The new owner of Nemiroff is to be announced at the beginning of August. Experts estimate value of Nemiroff at 300 - 320 Million USD.

Vodka quality under control |
Inspekcja Jakości Handlowej Artykułów Rolno-Spożywczych (Agricultural and Food Products Quality Inspection) has informed that there are still cases of inappropriately labelled products and lowered quality standards according to the results of the current inspection of spirit beverages. Vodka has been inspected in the scope of physical and chemical properties. Other categories of spirit beverages (such as flavoured vodkas, gin, brandy, whisky and liquors) have been checked in relation to proper labelling. Labelling had most of irregularities (17.6% of the controlled batches of spirit beverages had incorrect labelling). 8.1% of the inspected vodkas had improper chemical and physical composition. The inspection anticipates next inspections in the spirit industry.

End of the champagne crisis |
Sale of champagne to the European Union states increased by 25.8% in the first quarter 2010 and sale of the worldwide sale raised as much as 19.4% in comparison with the analogous period last year. Demand for champagne also increased in France, the sale of the local beverage in this period was by 8.1% greater.
