Drastically high consumption in EU |
Average citizen of the European Union consumes 11 litres of pure alcohol a year, what exceeds the results of the residents of the remaining part of the world by 2.5 times. EuroCare Association to fight alcoholism warns that the total cost of diseases, crimes and accidents related with alcohol is estimated at around 1.3 of the Union’s GDP. The EuroCare fraction demands implementation of the duty to place warnings on alcohol consumption harmfulness on alcoholic products’ packaging, raising excise tax, reducing alcohol advertisement, strict ban of selling alcohol to persons under 18 years of age (16 year olds or even younger are allowed to buy beer in many countries of the European Union).

Okocim reactivation - effective actions of Carlsberg |
In March 2009, Okocim emerged on the countrywide trade market in a bottle with a new graphics. After six months from the return to the market, the Okocim Premium Pils brand gained 0.8% share on the beer market and the remaining Okocim products raised their share up to nearly 2%. Carlsberg Polska Brewery wants Okocim lager to achieve 3% of the Polish market within 2 to 3 years.

Actor resigns from wine investment |
Marek Kondrat is not going to open a wine-bar at Gdańsk’s Główne Miasto by Długi Targ Street, despite the fact that originally the known restaurant was to be given to him without any contest. Apart from catering, the wine-bar would also house an artistic activity. Winarium Company already has a point in Sopot and is considering another localisation in the Triple City this year.

Taiwan produces the victorious whisky |
The alcoholic beverage from Taiwan won the first place during whisky tasting in Edinburgh on the occasion of annual birthday celebrations of the 18th-century Scottish poet Burns. The Taiwanese whisky Kavalan made a spectacular win in the contest over three Scottish and one English whisky.

Americans choose cheaper alcoholic beverages |
The industry report of the Distilled Spirits Council shows that last year the citizens of the United States, who feel the results of the recession, reached for cheaper alcoholic beverages resigning from higher shelf price. Cheap alcohol consumption overseas increased in 2009 by 5.5%. Whereas demand for more exclusive brands, the prices of which shaped at the level of 30 USD per 75 ml bottle, dropped by 5.1%.

New society of beer lovers |
According to the initiators – the beer enthusiasts of Olsztyn, tasters and collectors of beer gadget, the task of the new group of golden beverage enthusiasts shall be a promotion of the tradition associated with beer industry and presentation of its entire wealth. The new society will be established as a branch of Beer Fellowship, Polish branch of the European Beer Consumers Union organisation.

Police has secured a few thousand forged labels of mainly brand spirits, coffee and cigarettes in a private printing house nearby Mińsk Mazowiecki. Imprisonment of up to 5 years is applied for illegal production of labels with forged trademarks.

Minimum alcohol prices in Great Britain |
The British government considers implementation of minimum prices for spirits, wine and beer, what practically means a double price raise of alcoholic beverages in order to reduce a growing consumption of alcohol and recent plaque of drunkenness and deaths related with alcohol poisoning.
